I decided to celebrate my birthday in a way that would be as memorable as it was unique—by exploring the wonders of Egypt. My journey began with a flight into Cairo, where I immersed myself in the rich history and culture that makes this ancient land so captivating.
Cairo: A Blend of Ancient and Modern
My first stop was the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, a treasure trove of artifacts that brought the grandeur of ancient Egypt to life. The true highlight of Cairo was visiting the Pyramids of Giza. I recommend booking a late afternoon tour to witness these majestic structures bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, followed by an evening concert under the stars—a truly magical experience.
Cruising the Nile on a Dahabiya: A Step Back in Time
From Cairo, I embarked on a journey down the Nile on a dahabiya, a traditional two-masted sailing boat that offers an experience of unparalleled serenity and elegance. The following day, we visited the town of Kom Ombo, where the unique temple dedicated to the crocodile-headed god Sobek provided fascinating insights into ancient Egyptian beliefs. The adjacent Crocodile Museum, with its collection of mummified crocodiles, added an extra layer of intrigue.
